Abstract

At present ecotourism development is important for providing economic and social benefits to host communities by expanding the community’s economic base. The existing legislation in relation to ecotourism development was reviewed in detail. Except, Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (FFPO) other legislations are supportive for ecotourism development at national parks in Sri Lanka. There are generic issues found in the FFPO for ecotourism development at national parks under legal and policy and operational considerations. It is recommended to update the existing FFPO ecotourism development in national parks in Sri Lanka.
